Privateers Unable to Solve Mount St. Mary in Skyline Conference Showdown

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Soccer team fell at home to the Mount St. Mary Knights in Skyline Conference action by the score of 3-0 on Tuesday evening.

The Privateers registered seven shots on the evening, with four shots on target. Freshman Justin Forrest (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) had a pair of shots with one on goal, while junior Harry Colucci (Port Jefferson, N.Y./Earl L. Vandenmeulen), sophomore Parker Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) and freshman Chris O'Connor (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) all picked up shots on goal.

In net for the Privateers, rookie goalkeeper Michael Rodriguez (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) made 10 saves on the night while yielding all three goals to the Knights in a full 90 minutes of play.

Mount St. Mary got on the board first with a goal in the sixth minute on a lead pass that was tapped into the goal. The 1-0 lead held all the way through halftime, as the Privateers were only able to muster one shot through the initial 45 minutes.

In the second half, junior Matt Smith (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) took a shot that was pushed wide left of the post in the 52nd minute as he was vying to even the game at one apiece. The Knights added their second of the night just minutes later, and then added an insurance goal in the 80th minute of play to seal the victory.

Final shots were in favor of the Knights at a 25-7 margin, while the Knights also held the lead in corner kicks at 5-1. Mount St. Mary was called offsides on three occasions, while Maritime was whistled ahead of the play just twice.
