Week 7 Preview: Maritime Returns Home Looking to Score League Win vs. Becker

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – After a quick road trip last week, the Privateer football team returns home to Reinhart Field to take on the Becker Hawks for a 2 p.m. start.

Series History: Maritime owns an 8-2 record in the 10 all-time contests with the Hawks. Last season the Hawks squeaked past the Privateers by a 14-13 score as the Hawks scored a touchdown with just 1:18 left in the game. Maritime led in the rushing categories during game with 291 yards and a 5.9-yard per rush average.
 
Maritime Last Game Recap: Last week, the Privateers knocked off the Anna Maria AMCATs by the score of 22-0 in Paxton, Mass. The game proved to be historic as the Privateer defense held the AMCATs to just 44 plays and 20 yards of total offense. The team also had a program-record 324 passing yards in the game on offense.
 
Becker Last Game Recap: Becker played host to Norwich last weekend and fell by a 22-13 score on Alumni Field. The Hawks led in the passing game with 94 net yards passing, but were sacked six times and threw one interception in the loss.
 
Coach to Cure MD: The Maritime coaches will be wearing patches on their sleeves at the game to raise awareness of Duchene Muscular Dystrophy. Fans can donate $5 to Coach to Cure MD by texting the word "CURE" to 90999 (standard text messaging rates apply). Fans can also visit CoachtoCureMD.org to make a donation.
 
Honorary Captain: Four-year old Jaylen Jhaveri and his family will be joining the four Privateer captains onto the field for the coin flip prior to the game. Jaylen has Duchene Muscular Dystrophy, and will be presented with a jersey prior to the game to wear onto the field.
 
Breast Cancer Awareness: As October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, members of the team will be donning pink paraphernalia during the game including wristbands and shoelaces.
 
Before the Game: As part of Youth Day at Reinhart Field, there will be a flag football matchup featuring players from the Sports and Arts in School Foundation on the field beginning at 10:00 a.m.
 
Around the ECFC: Mount Ida visits Gallaudet at 12:00 p.m. to open ECFC action on Saturday, Anna Maria hosts Norwich at 1:00 p.m., while Husson takes on Castleton in Vermont at 1:00 p.m.
