THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime women's soccer team was defeated 2-0 by Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon, as the Huskies tallied two late goals on Hannaford Field in Gorham, Maine. The Privateers are now 1-1 on the season. Freshman goalkeeper
Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) had a strong game in just the second appearance of her career. Havens totaled 10 saves, a career-high, on Southern Maine's 12 shots on goal, in the full 90 minutes.
Southern Maine's two late goals came in the 79th minute from CC Pelletier, and in the 87th minute from Emma Dennison.
Sophomore
Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) had two shots, one on goal to lead the Privateers, while sophomore
Julianna Avitto (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) added a shot on goal.
Maritime totaled four shots, two on goal on the day, along with four corners.
The Privateers will try to get back on the winning track against Maine-Machias tomorrow, September 6, at 1:00pm on Hannaford Field to close out the team's weekend swing in Maine.
