BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer team picked up its first Skyline Conference win of the 2015 season, defeating the St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Bears by the score of 8-0 from the Aviator Complex.
Junior
Kathleen Burns (Islip, N.Y./Islip) led the team with eight points as she recorded three goals and two assists, freshman
Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) was second on the team with six point as she scored a goal and tied a program record with three assists in the game.
Sophomore
Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) added two more goals to her ledger, as she now leads the team with 10 on the season, the sixth highest goal total in a single-season thus far. Sophomore
Julianna Avitto (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) and freshman
Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) also recorded goals, while Deleva and sophomore
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) also added solo assists.
In goal, freshman
Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) registered five saves en route to her fourth win of the season. Sophomore
Paige Frankel (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception) came on in the second half and made four saves in 24:31 in goal.
Burns got the scoring started with an assist from Salatto, just 18:02 into the match. Woods picked up her first of the game as Salatto recorded her second assist of the day. Burns closed out the opening half with her second goal of the day as she took a pass from Deleva with Maritime taking the 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
The second half saw Maritime add four goals within a span of 6:01 as Deleva, Woods, Burns and Salatto all found the back of the net to make the score 7-0. Avitto capped off the scoring in the 77th minute to put the Privateers ahead by an 8-0 score.
Maritime ended the day with 41 shots, while the Bears had 12 of their own. Corner kicks were also in favor of Maritime by a 5-2 margin.
Maritime (4-5-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) will next take on St. Joseph's (LI) as Skyline play continues; the match takes place on Saturday, October 3 from Danzi Stadium on Long Island.
St. Joseph's (Bklyn) (1-4-0, 0-4-0 Skyline) will take on Lehman this Wednesday at 6 p.m. from the Aviator Complex in Brooklyn.
