THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer team fell short in a 2-1 match against Lehman on Tuesday night on Reinhart Field.
Freshman
Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) made 10 saves in net in the full 90 minutes.
Sophomore
Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) netted the Privateers lone goal on the night. The sophomore drove down the right side of the field in the 17th minute, then cut in past a defender and took a shot to the right side of the keeper to score her eighth goal of the season.
After the goal by Woods, Maritime kept the game tied thanks to strong defense from senior
Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and sophomore
Paige Frankel (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception). Strong play in net from Havens who had nine of her 10 saves in the second half. Lehman broke through with a goal in the 66th minute to make it 2-1.
Freshman
Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) and sophomore
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) both had strong performances in midfield against a solid Lehman attack.
Maritime (3-4-0) totaled three shots and two corners in the match. The team will play host to the Sage Gators to begin Skyline Conference play on Friday evening, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. on Reinhart Field.
Lehman (7-1-0) got goals from Michelle Reyes Ruiz and Juliana Generoso, and will next take on Medgar Evers on Wednesday evening.
