THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Women's Soccer team totalled 13 goals on its way to a 13-0 win over Medgar Evers (0-5-0, 0-0) on Thursday night on Reinhart Field. Sophomore
Gayle Woods (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) netted four goals on the night to lead the scoring for the Privateers.
Freshman
Cammie Havens (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Borough) had a goal and an assist in addition to her 45 minutes in net, picking up the victory in the process. Havens played the first half as goalkeeper and made two saves. Havens transitioned to a field player in the second half and scored her first career goal on an assist from classmate
Courtney Salatto (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip). Just one minute later, Havens assisted Woods on her fourth goal of the night.
Freshman
Krista Deleva (Sound Beach, N.Y./Miller Place) scored her first collegiate goal on her way to a hat trick. Deleva took seven shots, five of which were on goal. Her last goal came on a long shot from 10-yards outside of the 18-yard box that just made it over the goalkeeper. Deleva totaled eight points on the night.
Deleva got the goal scoring going with a quick goal in the sixth minute of action on an assist from sophomore
Paige Frankel (Hackensack, N.J./Immaculate Conception). Woods followed with her two first half goals, one unassisted and one on a breakaway lead pass from senior
Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville). Avitto was up next, scoring her two goals within minutes of each other. The first came on a cross in the box from junior
Kathleen Burns (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and the second came off a corner with assists from Deleva and Burns.
Sophomore
Grace Stanton (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) got in on the scoring action with the team's final goal in the opening half, with senior
Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) and sophomore
Jessica Yee (Freehold, N.J./Freehold) picking up the helpers.
After the goals from Havens and Woods in the second half, Salatto scored in the 48th minute on an assist from Deleva inside the box. Woods then scored her fourth goal to cap off her career-high nine-point night. Deleva followed with two consecutive goals in the 53rd and 59th minutes, followed by Yee scoring the final goal of the night and first since returning from injury.
Senior
Caroline Reynolds (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) and junior Marissa Athan had very strong games from their defensive positions, helping the Privateers to the shutout victory.
The Privateers (3-3-0) tallied 36 shots to go along with five corners in the match.
Maritime will look to stay on the winning track in their next match on Tuesday, Septemeber 22 against Lehman on Reinhart Field at 7 p.m.
