RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Maritime women's lacrosse team fell in its season finale to the Mount St. Vincent Dolphins by the score of 14-5 in a shortened affair on Saturday afternoon.
In the game, junior
Leanne Lavelle (New Windsor, N.Y./Washingtonville) had four of the team's five goals to give her 25 on the season, becoming just the second player in program history to have three years with 25 goals or more. She joins
Kristen Saporito '12 as the only players in program history to achieve that milestone.
Also with her four goals, Lavelle joins Saporito for second place on the all-time career list in points with 96 apiece, just 12 points behind
Catherine Brady '12 for the all-time mark.
Freshman
Shannon Brady (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) picked up a goal in the game, while senior
Faye Dohring (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) collected her first career point via assist in her finale collegiate lacrosse game.
Brady also led the team with five draw controls, while Lavelle and sophomore
Alyssa Esposito (Farmingdale, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) recorded one ground ball each. Junior
Meghin Paczkowski (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) picked up a shot on a free-position attempt in the game as well.
Mount St. Vincent scored the first five goals of the game with just 6:44 gone by in the opening period. After the fifth Dolphin goal, Brady got on the board with her 12th of the season. The Dolphins regained their five-goal lead exactly one minute later to take a 6-1 advantage with 22 minutes left to play in the half.
Lavelle scored next off a pass from Dohring, while Mount St. Vincent responded with two more to move ahead 8-2. Lavelle scored three more times in the half, which included her 25th goal of the season with 2:05 left in the period.
Mount St. Vincent scored once more after Lavelle's goal to take its 14-5 lead with 1:28 to go in the period.
Sophomore
Christina Finnen (Hicksville, N.Y./Holy Trinity) made five saves in the effort as she finished her season with exactly 100 saves on the year, the seventh highest total in single-season history.
Maritime finishes its campaign with a 3-10 overall record, with wins coming against Maine Maritime, Mass. Maritime and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The Privateers will look forward to the 2016 season and hope to build off of that mark.
Mount St. Vincent wrapped up its season with its second win against 10 loses, with the teams wins coming against Bard and Maritime.
