PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Swimming team improved to 5-0 on Friday evening as the Privateers swam past the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons by the score of 147-53.
 
Maritime won 8 of the 11 events on the night from the Danzi Athletic Center on Long Island.
 
The Privateers opened up the evening with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Picking up a time of 1:47.10 was the Maritime B Relay of Pat O'Dea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xavier), John Accetta (Seaford, N.Y./Kellenberg), Nathanael Marino (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain) and John Dean (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen). The A Relay team was just a fraction behind finishing with a time of 1:47.22; the team was made up of Matt Cannon (Sparta, N.J./Sparta), Craig Lyon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North), Kevin Wu (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) and Doug Russell (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot).
 
Maritime had two other relay teams in the mix, finishing behind third place Sarah Lawrence. Kevin Gilroy (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North), Brian Roberts (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), Jesse Pierce (Broadway, Va./Broadway) and Tristan DeYoung (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) scored a time of 1:57.13, while Kevin Keane (East Islip, N.Y./St. Anthony's), Adrian Klein (Palma de Mallorca, Spain/Gilmer Country (W. Va.)), Christopher Chilelli (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional), and Kyle Zacaczkowski finished with a 2:02.75.
 
The team swam unopposed in the 1,000 Freestyle, with Shane Hoey (Bell Harbor, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) taking the top spot with a time of 11:45.98. Chilelli was close behind in second place (11:53.99), followed by Luke Doherty (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) with a 12:03.90. Robert Lewis (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) also swam an exhibition during the heat.
 
The Gryphons picked up their first nine-point effort of the night in the 200 Freestyle, but Andrew Katz (Elwood, N.Y./John Glenn), and Chilelli were right behind to negate the points, Katz swam a 2:05.99 with Chilelli scoring a 2:15.11. The Privateers bounced back in the 50 Freestyle, as Wu scored a time of 23.57, followed by John Dean (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) in third (23.98) and Roberts in fourth (25.75).
 
The 200 Individual Medley saw Brendan Erskine (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) score a six-second win as he posted a time of 2:19.15. DeYoung was second with a 2:25.42, followed by Jonathan Murray (Long Beach, N.Y./Kellenberg) with a 2:30.13. In the 100 Butterfly, Preston Truong (Austin, Texas/Round Rock) was edged out by three seconds in the race as he registered a time of 55.82. Charles Schnebel (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) scored a 1:01.56, followed by Ryan Fitzgerald (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) with a 1:04.02 for the Privateers.
 
As the night progressed, the 100 Freestyle took place with Russell finishing second with a time of 51.94, he was followed by Nicholas Brow (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) (55.93), and Lillo Rubino (Islip Terrace, N.Y./Central Islip) (57.54) as all three Maritime participants finished in less than a minute. In the backstroke, Cannon finished back on top of the event with a time of 1:02.86, edging out Rubino by less than two seconds. Katz made it a 1-2-3 sweep for Maritime with a 1:04.99.
 
In the 500 Freestyle, Doherty, Lewis and Brow swept the board, with Truong in the event as an exhibition. The Privateers continued its strong rally with another sweep in the 100 Breaststroke as Marino, Erskine and Lyon taking the top three spots.
 
The night ended with a top-two finish in the 200 Freestyle Relay; Truong, Russell, Marino, and Wu touched the wall first with a time of 1:34.54. Murray, Rubino, Hoey and Peter Skerys (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) followed the initial quartet with a time of 1:40.15.
 
Maritime also had a pair of exhibition squads as Gilroy, Charles Gallagher (Port Ewen, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes), Pierce and Zacaczkowski posted a time of 1:46.84. Tom Mirrione (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North), Klein, Aaron Perez (Glendale, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) and Keane followed the third place unit, as they touched the wall with a time of 1:46.84.
