Men's Soccer Falls in Skyline Conference Tournament to Mount St. Vincent

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. – The Maritime Men's Soccer team fell to Mount St. Vincent, 4-2, in a closely contested match in the first round of the Skyline Conference tournament.

With the loss, the Privateers ended the season at 12-7 and finished fourth in the Skyline Conference regular season.

Senior Sheick Wattara (Bronx, N.Y./Urban Assembly for Math & Science) started the scoring with the first goal of the game in the 10th minute of the game. Freshman Parker Gallt (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) slotted a through ball between two defenders, hitting Wattara in stride in the middle of the box. Wattara then dribbled past the keeper and netted his team-leading 8th goal of the season to make it 1-0.

Junior Kieran Donnelly (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) made four saves at goalkeeper in 77 minutes in relief of senior Karl Weber (Northport, N.Y./Northport).

In the 56th minute, sophomore Brett Reilly (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) headed home a corner from senior Kevin Ferriera for his third goal of the season.

Sophomore Matt Smith (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) put forth a strong performance, anchoring the team in his defensive midfield position. Senior Brian McKeever (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) and freshman Jack Feehan (Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale) also put together strong defensive performances.

After Wattara's opening goal, Mount St. Vincent netted three unanswered goals, one in the first half and two in the second.

Maritime had multiple scoring chances in the closing minutes of the match but they were unable to tie it up. Mount St. Vincent scored a late goal with 20 seconds left to end the match at 4-2.

The Privateers totaled seven shots while Mount St. Vincent (12-6) had 14 total shots, 10 on goal. Maritime led the match in corners eight to five.
