Men's Lacrosse Preview: Privateers head back to New Jersey for Game with FDU-Florham

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 4, 2014) –
Coming off of its first loss of the season, the Maritime men's lacrosse team returns to Madison, N.J. to take on FDU-Florham on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.

LAST GAME RECAP
Maritime suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of the Centenary Cyclones on Saturday evening at Robert T. Shields Field by the score of 11-5. For the second straight game, Maritime was led by freshman Zachary Pace (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe Township), who collected three more goals on the season to five him a team-best seven through the first two games of the year.
 
In addition to Pace, freshman Corey Cristallo (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) picked up the first goal of his young career while sophomore Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) collected his second of the 2014 campaign. In addition to his goal, Hayes was 9-of-16 on faceoffs against Centenary as his season success rate is 58.3% in the faceoff circle. Hayes also had a team-high seven ground balls against Centenary, and was followed closely by sophomore Jonathan Strezenec (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun), who had five.
 
PRAISE FOR PACE
With his seven-goal output in the first two games of the season, Pace was named to the Skyline Conference Honor Roll as announced by the league on Tuesday morning. SCOUTING THE DEVILS
FDU-Florham was selected to finish fifth in the Freedom Conference preseason poll in the up-and-coming league. Thus far the Devils are 1-2 on the season with a win over Rosemont in the season opener followed by loses to Drew and Stockton.
 
In its most recent game against the Skyline Conference Stockton Ospreys, FDU-Florham fell by a 13-8 score. Seven different players found the back of the net for the Devils, including a pair from junior Frank Reda, who currently leads the team with 10 goals on the season.
 
In goal, George Beck has played every minute this season and has stopped 27 shots on the season while yielding 27 goals for a 9.00 goals against average.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
Since the start of the 2005 season, Maritime is 0-2 all-time against FDU-Florham including losses in each of the past two seasons. Last year, the Privateers lost 11-3 on Reinhart Field with goals from Nick SchneiderMatthew Messina and Daniel Ahern. In goal, Nick Barbuto made 13 saves while suffering the loss.

UP NEXT
Maritime plays its first game on Reinhart Field this season with a matchup against Shenandoah slated for 1 p.m. against the Hornets. The game will be part of a lacrosse doubleheader that will feature the Maritime women's lacrosse team against Rutgers-Camden at 4 p.m. on Reinhart Field.
 
FDU-Florham continues its five-game homestand with a matchup against Cobleskill of the NEAC Conference, with matchups against Lebanon Valley and Lycoming to follow at home.
