THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Feb. 21, 2014) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team will kick off the 2014 season tomorrow, Feb. 22, with a "home game" against Manhattanville College. The game will be played at Manhattanville's GoValiants.com Field and is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Change Of Plans, Game's In Purchase Now
Saturday's game was originally scheduled to be played in Throggs Neck at Maritime, but due to the field situation after the recent snowstorms in the area, the location had to be changed. The Privateers will still be the home team, even though they'll be playing on Manhattanville's field in Purchase, N.Y.

Inside The Series…
This will be the sixth time the two schools will be meeting and the Privateers hold a 4-1 advantage over the Valiants in a series that dates back to 2005.

Last Time These Two Teams Met…
Maritime won the last meeting against Manhattanville in dramatic fashion, rallying to erase a 9-5 deficit to claim a 13-11 victory on April 3, 2013, at GoValiants.com Field in Purchase.

Seniors Matthew Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) and Kevin Winter (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) both led the offense with hat tricks, while Winter also picked up a team-best three assists. Then-junior Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and freshman Tom Kelly chipped in with two goals apiece for the Privateers and senior Ed Fargo (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains), then-freshman Matt Hayes (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) and sophomore Daniel Ahern (Kings Park, N.Y./St. Dominic) also scored for the Privateers. In goal, senior Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) recorded the win after making 12 saves in the 60 minutes.

For Manhattanville, Will Sahakian found the back of the net four times, while Connor Normandin scored three goals. Billy Motherway and Tom Tarczali each scored two goals apiece for the Valiants. Dom Poletto made 19 saves in the losing effort.

Scouting The Valiants
The Manhattanville Valiants are led by third-year head coach Kevin Warnock. Last season, the squad finished winless in 16 games. This year, they are without their top two leading scorers from 2013, Sahakian (23G-19A-42P) and Motherway (21G-7A-28P). Their top returning scorer is Tarczali, who recorded 14 goals and one assist for 15 points last year.

The Valiants also lost their goalie Poletto to graduation and will look to last year's backup, junior Ray Zimlin, to start between the pipes this season. Zimlin was 0-2 with a 12.61 GAA in eight appearances in 2013.

The squad's leading groundball man, Jack Polak is back for his junior campaign. He gobbled up a team-best 57 GBs last year. Tarczali was third on that list behind Motherway with 45 pick-ups.
