THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 6, 2013) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team lost its midweek non-conference matchup against FDU-Florham, 11-3, Wednesday at Reinhart Field. The Privateers fall to 1-4 on the season, while the Devils improve to 1-3.
Sophomore
Nick Schnieder (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) scored the first goal for Maritime in the third quarter with FDU ahead by the score of 9-0. The tally was assisted by junior
James D'Amico (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.) (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Francis Prep.). Later in the third, senior
Matt Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) found the back of the net off a pass by junior
Ed Fargo (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) that made the score 10-2.
The first goal of the fourth quarter was scored by sophomore
Daniel Ahern (Kings Park, N.Y./St. Dominic) (Kings Park, N.Y./St. Dominic), who rifled a shot from the top of the box past the Devils' sophomore goalie, Gerry Yotcoski. Junior
Mike Johnson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) added the assist on Ahern's tally, which was the last of the game for the Privateers.
Johnson also led the team (and matched the game-high) with five groundballs on the night, while sophomore
Justin Fronckwicz (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) led all players with three caused turnovers. In goal, senior
Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) made 13 saves.
Yotcoski earned the victory in net for FDU-Florham after making 16 saves. He got help from sophomore Frank Reda, who scored a game-high four goals. Senior Cody McHugh chipped in with three goals and one assist, while classmates Ryan Reuther and Joe Yobbi both recorded five groundballs, apiece.
The Privateers return to action on Saturday, when they will play host to Becker College. First faceoff will be at 4 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
