FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (March 23, 2013) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team lost its Skyline Conference opener at Farmingdale St., 15-5, Saturday afternoon at the Rams' Outdoor Lacrosse Field. The Privateers fall to 3-7 (0-1 Skyline) on the season, while FSC improves to 3-4 (1-0 Skyline).
The score was knotted up a 1-1 after one period of play, as the Rams got on the board first at 4:49 on a man-up goal by sophomore Matthew Finn, assisted by classmate Mike Strebel. Maritime responded with 46 seconds remaining in the first, when freshman

In the second quarter, Farmingdale went up 3-1 on a man-up goal by senior Bobby Thomas, assisted by Strebel, and an even-strength tally by Finn, assisted by freshman Matthew Visintin. Junior
Mike Johnson (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored an unassisted goal to bring the Privateers back within one at 4:18, but the Rams scored again just under two minutes later when Finn recorded his third goal of the game and that ended the scoring for the first half with FSC leading, 5-2.
Farmingdale shut out the Privateers over the next quarter and tallied six straight goals in the third and early into the fourth quarter, three of which from the stick of Finn, to build up a 10-2 lead. Seniors

Cory Gallagher (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) went back-to-back for Maritime, with freshman

Andrew Scalesi (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) scored to round out the Privateers' scoring on the day.
Hayes was the game-leader with 12 groundballs and was 13-for-19 from the faceoff-X, while Messina and junior
Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Plainview JFK) (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Planview JFK) both recorded 3 GBs each. In goal, senior
Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) made 13 saves in over 55 minutes of action before being replaced by freshman
Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge), who stopped three Rams shots in just under five minutes.
Finn ended the day with nine goals for the Rams, while Strebel scored one goal and had six assists. Thomas tallied twice and added two helpers on the day, while senior Jason Opitz also chipped in with a goal and two assists. Senior Ricky Morales and sophomore Donovan Devaney both picked up a team-high five groundballs. In net, freshman Thomas Fallon earned the victory, making 10 saves in almost 60 minutes.
Maritime returns to action on Wednesday, March 27, when the team will travel up to Newburgh, N.Y., to take on Skyline-foe Mount St. Mary. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Knights' Synthetic Turf Field.
