MLAX Drops Non-Conference Slate At Wesleyan

        MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (March 20, 2013) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team lost to Wesleyan University, 18-1, Wednesday night on the road at the Cardinals' Smith Field. The Privateers fall to 3-6 on the season, while the Cards improve to 4-1.
 
        Freshman Tom Kelly (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) recorded the only goal for Maritime and it came in the opening quarter of play with Wesleyan ahead, 5-0. Senior Kevin Winter (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) got the assist on the tally. The Cardinals scored one more goal in the quarter to take a 6-1 lead into the short break.
 
        Six more goals in the second quarter gave the Cards a 12-1 lead that they carried with them into the locker room at halftime. Three goals in both the third and fourth quarter ended the scoring in the game. The Privateers were outshot, 58-17, by Wesleyan, who is receiving votes in the national poll.
 
        Maritime goalie Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) recorded 14 saves in three quarters of action before being replaced by freshman Mike Arnold (Plainedge, N.Y./Plainedge) (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) in the fourth quarter, who made six stops. Winter picked up a team-high four groundballs for the Privateers.
 
        For the Cardinals, sophomore David Murphy recorded a team-high five points on a goal and four assists. Sophomore Matt Prezioso and junior Remy Lieberman both recorded hat tricks and junior goalie Mark Simmons earned the win in net with four saves in just under one half of play. Senior JD Dieterich made four more saves in over a half.
 
        The Privateers return to action on Saturday, when the squad will open up Skyline Conference action at Farmingdale State College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
