Swim Teams Sweep Old Westbury On The Road Tuesday Night

        OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 5, 2013) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming teams travelled to Long Island Tuesday night for their first Skyline meet of the season at Old Westbury and both teams defeated the Panthers. The men won by the score of 151-53, while the women triumphed, 113-84.
 
        On the women's side, sophomore Hayley Hobbs (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) led the Privateers by winning all three races that she participated in, starting the night off with a victory as part of the 200 medley relay team that touched first in 2:08.93. She also won the 100 butterfly event in 1:04.00 and was on the 200 free relay team that won in 1:52.97. Freshman Treasa Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) was on both the relay teams that won as well.
 
        Also picking up victories on the night were junior Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy) and sophomore Emma Crandall (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) as part of the 200 medley relay team, senior Kwantisha Lozada (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) in the 1000 freestyle event in 14:40.48, freshman Danielle Leahy (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach) (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach) in the 100 free event in 1:03.02 and freshman Ashley O'Brien (Middle Village, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) (Middle Village, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) and junior Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) as part of the 200 free relay team.
 
        The men won all but two events on the night and were led by freshman Tony Choi (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke), who won all three events he was entered in – as part of the 200 medley relay that touched first in 1:46.52, in the 200 free event (1:59.63) and as part of the 200 free relay team that won in 1:39.47. Three swimmers won two events each, as junior Collin McNamara (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) was on both relay teams, junior Zach Haughn (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.) (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.) was a part of the 200 medley relay team and also won the 200 individual medley in 2:14.93 and sophomore Matthew Collins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) won both the distance events, the 1000 free (11:29.59) and the 500 free (5:24.01).
 
        Freshman Craig Lyon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) was also on the 200 medley relay team, while junior Daniel Hemmer (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) and senior John Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) won back-to-back events in the 100 fly (58.24) and the 100 free (54.03), respectively. Sophomore Brendan Erskine (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) also picked up an individual victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.12, while senior James Rostrup (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and sophomore Peter Skerys (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) closed out the wins for Maritime as part of the 200 free relay team with Choi and McNamara.
 
        The Privateers return to action next Wednesday, Nov. 13, with a home meet against Skyline opponent Purchase College. First event is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Pool.
