Scouting the Privateers
Maritime enters off of its largest margin of victory of the season with a 38-6 win over Castleton State a week ago. Last week the team rushed for a program-record 550 yards in a single contest en route to the one-sided victory. The team also tied a record for most rushing attempts in a single-game with 72.
Leading the way on the ground last week was freshman quarterback
Ryan Heizman, who picked up 210 yards on the ground as well as three touchdowns. The 210 yards was only the second time in program history that a Privateer has picked up more than 200 yards in a single-game, the last time it was done was by junior fullback
Kyle Gardner earlier this season against Anna Maria, when he had 221 yards.
Gardner was second on the team last week against Castleton in rushing yards as he picked up 144 yards on the ground and averaged 7.2 yards per touch. Senior running back
Frank Laino also had eight runs and picked up 48 yards on the ground including the opening score for Maritime. Five other players got rushing yards for the Privateers and combined for 148 yards, a good chunk of that came off of a 64-yard dash from sophomore fullback
Dwayne Lacroix.
In addition to the four offensive touchdowns, Maritime also had one on the defensive side of the ball as sophomore safety
Beau Warrington grabbed an interception in the third quarter and returned it all the way for another Maritime touchdown. The defensive score wasn't the only highlight as the unit held the Spartan offense to just six points.
Leading the way in terms of tackles was junior linebacker
Nick Coffiey who recorded a season-high 14 stops including a 10-yard sack. Coffiey also had an interception and return for five yards, while also recovering a fumble that was caused by senior defensive back
Andrew Vazquez (Yonkers, N.Y./Sacred Heart) . Freshman linebacker
Eric Wallace also had the best game of his young career as he picked up eight tackles, including a 14-yard sack on the last play of the game to seal the victory.
Special teams went about their business on Saturday against the Spartans as sophomore kicker
Diogo Dietrich remained perfect on extra points in league play going 5-for-5 to improve his ECFC extra point success to 16-for-16. Dietrich also had a season-high seven kickoffs for 397 yards and had his league-best sixth touchback of the season. Freshman punter
John Arny was called into duty just once on Saturday and had one punt for 32 yards.
Scouting the Eagles
Husson enters with an overall record of 4-3 and an ECFC mark of 3-1 heading into Saturday's game against Maritime. Last week the Eagles had their four-game winning streak snapped by the Bison of Gallaudet by the score of 16-13 in Washington, D.C. Senior running back Byron Jackson led the team with 111 yards on the ground and also had one touchdown.
Jackson leads all rushers with 484 yards in seven games and leads the squad with 69.1 yards a game and four rushing touchdowns. Second on the team in rushing is rookie Kyle McKinnon, who has 341 yards on the ground and is also tied with Jackson with four scores. The passing game is led by sophomore Joe Seccareccia, who has completed 25 of his 54 passes for four touchdowns. Seccareccia's favorite target has been sophomore wide out Josiah Hartley, with 15 catches. Freshman Ryan Stroud leads the team with touchdown receptions of his seven catches.
The team's inside linebacking core has been the strength of the defense as junior Stephan Dance has 62 tackles including 3.5 tackles for a loss and one sack. Fellow linebacker Eliis Throckmorton is second on the team with 58 wrap-ups including six tackles for loss. Senior defensive tackle has made a living of breaking through opponents' offensive lines and continues that this season with 15.5 tackles for a loss and seven sacks along with a pair of forced fumbles.
On special teams Reece Attard is the nation's top punter with 42.9 yards on his 37 punts this season in the team's seven games. He has eight pinned inside the opponent's 20-yard line and six fair catches and three touchbacks. The kicking game has been handled by Dennis Meehan with 10-of-12 extra points, but has not attempted a field goal this season.
