THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Oct. 30, 2013) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming & diving teams both lost to visiting non-conference opponent William Paterson University Wednesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Pool. The men lost by the close score of 126-116, while the women fell to the Pioneers, 133-83.
The men's team had seven victories over the 13 events on the night. Sophomore
Matthew Collins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) picked up victories in both long distance events, the 1000 free (11:01.04) and the 500 free (5:16.22), while freshman diver
Chris Deaver (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) won both the 1-meter dive competition with 232.55 points and the 3-meter dive with 229.5 points.
Also picking up individual victories were freshmen
Tony Choi (Westbury, N.Y./Clarke) and
Craig Lyon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North) (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Sachem North). Choi won the 200 free with a time of 1:52.33, while Lyon won the 100 breast in 1:06.53. The 200 medley relay team of freshman

Colton Walsh (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) and sophomore
Brendan Erskine (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and
Peter Skerys (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) (Sag Harbor, N.Y./Pierson) won the first event of the night in 1:44.73.
On the women's side, sophomore
Hayley Hobbs (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) led the Privateers with two individual wins in the 100 fly in 1:03.15 and the 100 back in 1:07.26. Freshman
Danielle Leahy (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach) (Cocoa Beach, Fla./Cocoa Beach) also had two wins, the first in the 50 free event (27.95) and the second in the final event of the night, as part of the 200 free relay team that touched first in 1:54.13. Senior
Kwantisha Lozada (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) and freshmen
Ashley O'Brien (Middle Village, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) (Middle Village, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) and
Treasa Murphy (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) were also members of the 200 free relay team.
Both the men's and women's teams will be on the road on Tuesday, Nov. 5, when they travel to Skyline rival Old Westbury on Long Island. First event is scheduled to go off at 6 p.m. at the Panthers' Aquatic Center.
