THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 22, 2013) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming and diving teams hosted non-conference opponent Baruch College Tuesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Pool in the final dual meet of the season. The Privateer men suffered a narrow defeat to the visiting Bearcats, 114-98, to drop to 5-3 on the season, while the women lost, 128-61, and fall to 2-6.
On the men's side, Maritime claimed only two first-place finishes on the night. Sophomore diver
Tucker Hadgraft (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) scored 154 points in the one-meter dive to win that event and senior
Dominic Pereira (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher) (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher) touched first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.48. Baruch was triumphant in every other event.
The women had no first-place finished, but freshman
Hayley Hobbs (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) had the best performances of the night for the Privateers. She finished in second place in all three of her events: the 200 medley relay that began the night, the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly. Sophomore
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) came in as runner up in two events: the 200 medley relay and the 500 freestyle.
Up next for the swimming and diving teams will be the Skyline Conference Championship Meet, which will be held next Friday, February 1, up at Purchase College in nearby Purchase, N.Y. The festivities are set to begin at 5 p.m. at the Purchase Pool.
