MADISON, N.J. (March 7, 2012) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team lost to the FDU-Florham Wednesday night in the first road game of the season. The defeat drops the Privateers to 1-3 on the season, while the Devils improve to 2-1.
Senior
John Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) scored two of Maritime's goal, while junior
Theo Greene (Pomona, N.Y./New York Military Academy) (Pomona, N.Y./New York Military Academy) tallied the other score. Junior
Kevin Winter (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) (Brightwaters, N.Y./Bay Shore) chipped in with an assist. In goal, junior
Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) played the whole game and made four goals per quarter for a total of 16 saves.
The first goal of the game didn't come until over 10 minutes were off the clock, when FDU-Florham's Adam Koontz found the back of the net off a pass by Paul Colflesh. The Privateers responded under a minute later, when Greene score assisted by Winter. The Devils scored the next two goals, before Driscoll picked up his first goal of the game at 5:36 of the second quarter, which ended the scoring for the first half with Florham ahead, 3-2.
The Devils scored two-straight goals once again to start the second half and Driscoll found the twine for the second time in the game with the last goal of the third quarter to make it, 5-3, in favor of the home team. FDU-Florham ended the scoring with back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter.
Koontz ended the night with a hat trick, three goals, to go along with one assist for a game-high four points. Jake Higgins and Cody McHugh each scored two goals, apiece to round out the scoring for Florham. In net, Gerry Yotcoski made six saves for the victory.
The Privateers are back in action in two days, on Friday, March 9, when they travel to Danbury, Conn. to take on Western Conn. State. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Colonial's Westside Athletic Complex.
