        OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Feb. 4, 2012) - The Maritime men's swimming team won its fifth straight Skyline Conference Championship on Saturday Old Westbury's Clark Athletic Center in Nassau County, Long Island.. The women finished in fourth place at the event.

        Senior Ryan Luchsinger (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) placed first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events and Maritime set a meet record in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Luchsinger was named the Skyline Swimmer of the Year, posting a winning time of 1:03.68 in the 100-yard breaststroke and setting a conference record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:25.40. He then paired with Jon DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville), Joe Tucker (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) and Collin McNamara (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) on the Privateers' record-setting 400-yard freestyle relay (3:25.03). DaSilva took gold in the 100-yard butterfly (55.51) and 200-yard butterfly (2:09.98).

        The Privateers won 11 events on the day. Four swimmers claimed individual awards, with Luchsinger and DaSilva each claiming two apiece, David Mierzwa (Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's College) (Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's College) winning the 1,000-free and Alex Dwyer (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna ) (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) claiming the gold in the 500-free. Both the 400-free relay team and the 200 medley relay team won. The medley team included Zach Haughn (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.) (Fairfield, Conn /Fairfield Prep), Dominic Pereira (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher) (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher), DaSilva and  McNamara. Maritime also claimed eight second-place finishes on the day.

        On the women's side, the 400-free relay team of Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy), Kwantisha Lozada (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township), Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) and Leighahn Ferrari (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) earned Second Team All-Conference honors by capturing a silver medal.
