Swimming Sweeps Mount St. Vincent Tuesday Night In Home Finale

Men Win, 105-49; Women Win, 105-63
 
        THROGGS, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2012) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming teams defeated Skyline opponent Mount St. Vincent Tuesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium. The meet was the Privateers' last home contest of the season. The men improve to 8-2 (4-0 Skyline) with a 105-49 victory, while the women advance to 3-8 (2-3 Skyline) with their 105-63 win.
 
        The Maritime men won all but one race on the night, starting off the meet touching first in the 200 medley relay by the team of seniors William DeFries (Salem, S.C./D.W.Daniel) (Salem, S.C./D.W.Daniel), Ryan Luchsinger (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) and Jonathan DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and freshman Collin McNamara (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) with a time of 1:49.66.
 
        Luchsinger, DaSilva and McNamara each went on to win two more events at the meet, as the trio was also a part of the 200 free relay team that won in 1:32.87, while Luchsinger won the 100-free (51.11), DaSilva won the 100-fly (56.95) and McNamara won the 50-free (23.33).
 
        On the women's side, freshman Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy) led the way with two individual wins in the 200-IM (2:32.66) and the 100-back (1:09.46), while also contributing to a relay win as a part of the 200-medley relay team that touched first in 2:08.57. Also on that relay team was freshman Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) and senior Leighahn Ferrari (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist), who both went on to win two more events, each on the 200-free relay team that won in 1:58.72, Acklin in the 100-fly (1:09.64) and Ferrari in the 50-free (28.57).
 
        Earlier in the week, Vanderlinden was named the Skyline Women's Swimming Weekly Honor Roll for her performances in the Privateers lone match last week at Lehman.
 
        The Privateers now prepare themselves for the 2012 Skyline Conference Championship Meet, which is being held this coming Saturday, Feb. 4 at noon at the Clark Athletic Center in Old Westbury, N.Y.
