THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 5, 2012) – The Maritime men's swimming team defeated visiting Skyline-foe Mount St. Mary College Wednesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Pool and the Privateers won convincingly, 156-39, to improve to 5-2 (3-0 Skyline) on the season. The women, however, lost to the Knights by the score of 125-80. They fall to 2-5 (1-2 Skyline).
The men won all 11 events on the night. Sophomore
Daniel Hemmer (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) led the way with three first-place finishes. He was the third leg of the 200 medley relay team that led off the meet with a win in 1:48.58 and won the 200 individual medley (2:15.41) and the 100 butterfly (1:00.44). Five other swimmers won two events, each.
On the women's side, two swimmers won all three of the events that they swam in: sophomore
Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy) and freshman
Hayley Hobb (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy). They were both a part of the 200 medley relay team that won early with a time of 2:05.68. Vanderlinden touched first in the 200 individual medley (2:30.33) and the 100 backstroke (1:10.57), while Hobbs won the 50 free (27.86) and the 100 fly (1:07.77).
Maritime will be back in action in the New Year, when they will welcome in non-conference opponent Baruch College to Riesenberg on Jan. 22. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
