THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 29, 2012) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming and diving teams took on Division II opponent Queens College on Thursday night at the Riesenberg Hall Pool. The visiting Knights swept the action, defeating the men by the narrow score of 126-117 and the women, 138-79. The Privateer men fall to 4-1 on the season, while the women drop to 2-3.
The men had just three first-place finishes on the night, led by sophomore
Matthew Collins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris), who won two events. He touched first in both the 1000 free (11:05.00) and the 500 free (5:17.97). Freshman
Brendan Erskine (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) had the other win for the Privateers in the 200 individual medley, narrowly winning by just two-hundredths of a second with a time of 2:08.08.
On the women's side, Maritime had just two race victories on the night, as sophomore
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) won the 50 free by just four-hundredths of a second in 27.06 and freshman
Hayley Hobbs (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) touched first in the 100 fly in 1:05.65.
The Privateers are back in the pool on Tuesday, Dec. 4, when they visit William Paterson in a make-up of the originally scheduled season-opener in early November. The meet is set to begin at 6 p.m. at the Pioneers' Wightman Pool.
