THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 27, 2012) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming teams swept Skyline-opponent Old Westbury Thursday night at the Riesenberg Hall Pool. The men won by the score of 134-71 to improve to 4-0 (2-0 Skyline) on the season, while the women won 133-59 and move to 2-2 (1-1 Skyline).
The women were led by two swimmers that finished in first place in all three of their respective events on the night: sophomore
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) and freshman
Emma Crandall (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield). Acklin won two individual events, the 100 fly (1:09.92) and the 500 free (6:11.11) and was a part of the 200 medley relay team that won in 2:09.60. Crandall was also on the 200 MR team as well as the 200 free relay team that touched first with a time of 2:02.39. Individually, she won the 100 breaststroke 1:22.48.
On the men's side, six swimmers won a team-high two events, apiece. Sophomore
Matthew Collins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) was the only swimmer to win two individual races: 1000 free (10:58.55) and the 500 free (5:28.57).
The teams are back in action on Thursday night, when they will play host to Division II Queens College. The first event of the night is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Pool.
