THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 15, 2012) – The Maritime swimming and diving teams hosted local-rival Lehman College in a non-conference meet on Monday night in the Riesenberg Hall Gym. It was the Privateers' first home event of the season and both the men's and women's teams came out victorious. The men move to 2-0 on the season with a 136-101 victory, while the women improve to 1-1 after their 105-43 win.
On the women's side, Maritime was victorious in nine events, starting with the 200 medley relay team of sophomore
Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy), senior
Ariel Beebe (Morian, N.Y./Morian Central) (Morian, N.Y./Morian Central), freshman
Hayley Hobbs (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) (Louisville, Ky./Mercy Academy) and sophomore
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (ewes, Del./West Broward) that touched first with a time of 2:07.93. The same team won the final event of the day, the 200 free relay, in 1:54.85.
Vanderlinden, Hobbs and Acklin each finished first in their respective individual events, all earning a team-high three wins for the night. Vanderlinden was victorious in the 100 backstroke in 1:10.52, Hobbs won the 100 butterfly in 1:06.18 and Acklin touched first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:37.50. Junior
Kwantisha Lozada (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) won two individual events: the 50 free (29.79) and the 100 free (1:06.47).
For the men, the 200 free relay team of freshman
Matthew Collins (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris) (Brooklyn, N.Y./Townsend Harris), junior
John Crawford (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder), sophomore

Joe Tucker (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) earned victory in 1:32.95. Collins also won the 1000 yard free race in 10:48.90. Freshman
Daniel Hemmer (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) won the 100 butterfly in 57:95, the only time under a minute, while junior
David Mierzwa (Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's College) (Tonawanda, N.Y./St. Joseph's College) touched first in the 500 free in 5:33.50.
The one-meter diving event was won by sophomore
Tucker Hadgraft (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) (Mount Sinai, N.Y./Mount Sinai) with a score of 122.50, while senior
Jeff Markarian (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) claimed first in the three-meter diving with a 131.30.
The Privateer swimming teams are back in action this weekend at the Kings Point Invitational. The event starts at 11 a.m. at the Mariners' O'Hara Pool.
