Privateer Swimming Shut Down At Baruch Last Night

        THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 20, 2012) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept by Baruch College last night in Manhattan, while the women also lost to Skyline opponent St. Joseph's as part of a tri-meet. The men fall to 6-2 on the season, while the women's record drops to 2-7 (1-3 Skyline).
 
        The Privateer men lost by a score of 119-83, as they posted only one first-place finish on the night. Freshman Zach Haughn (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.) (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.) touched first in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:07.34 for that lone victory.
 
        On the women's side, Maritime lost 70-25 to Baruch and 53-42 to St. Joseph's. There were two individual second-place finishes on the night, as senior Leighahn Ferrari (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) finished the 100-meter freestyle in 1:11.89 and sophomore Ariel Beebe (Morian, N.Y./Morian Central) (Morian, N.Y./Morian Central) came in second in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:36.76.
 
        The Privateers return to action next Wednesday, Jan. 25, when they travel across the Bronx to take on Lehman College. First race is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Lightning's APEX Center.
