THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 8, 2011) – The Maritime men's swimming team traveled up to Newburgh, N.Y. Wednesday night to take on Skyline-opponent Mount Saint Mary and came away with a 109-57 win over the Blue Knights, while the women's squad lost at Mount by the score of 137-67. The Privateer men improve to 5-1 (3-0 Skyline), while the women fall to 1-5 (1-2 Skyline). The Mount Saint Mary men fall to 3-3 (1-1 Skyline) and the women improve to 4-2 (2-0 Skyline).
On the men's side, the Privateers touched first in nine events and were led by four students who had two first-place finishes apiece. Individually, junior
Joe Tucker (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun) was the top swimmer in both the 200-free (1:57.34) and 100-free (52.73). Sophomore
Dominic Pereira (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher) (Jacksonville, Fla./Fletcher), senior
Jonathan DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and freshman
Collin McNamara (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) (Somerville, N.J./St. Joseph-Metuchen) were all a part of the 200-medley relay team that touched first in 1:48.72. Pereira went on to win the 100-breast (1:09.02), DaSilva was the winner of the 100-butterfly (57.80) and McNamara won the 50-free (23.66).
The women had two freshman lead the team with two first-place finishes on the night,
Charlotte Acklin (Lewes, Del./West Broward (Fla.)) (Lewes, Del./West Broward) and
Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy). They were both part of the 200-medley relay team that touched first in 2:10.90 to start the meet, while Acklin won the 100-butterfly in 1:15.22 and Vanderlinden won the 100-back in 1:09.38.
The teams return to action on Friday, when they host non-conference opponent Brooklyn College. The first meet is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Pool.
