THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 15, 2011) – The Maritime men's swimming team defeated Skyline opponent Purchase College, 104-72, Monday night at the Riesenberg Hall Pool. The win improves the Privateers to 2-1 (2-0 Skyline) on the season, while the Panthers fall to 1-4 (1-2 Skyline). The Maritime women's team lost to Purchase by just seven points, 95-88, to fall to 1-2 (1-1 Skyline), while the Panthers improved to 2-3 (2-1 Skyline).
The men had seven first place finishes on the day and were led by freshman
Zach Haughn (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.) (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep.) and senior
Ryan Luchsinger (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai), who each had two wins apiece. They were both a part of the 200-yard medley relay team that touched first in 1:50.74. Haughn also won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 59.56, while Luchsinger was the anchor of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that won its race in 1:39.71.
The women had two first place finishes in the meet. Freshman
Mariel Vanderlinden (Woodside, N.Y./Dominican Academy) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.13 and the 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore
Kwantisha Lozada (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) and seniors
Laura Palino (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon),
Brisa Garrido (Boca Raton, Fla./Chattahoochee) (Boca Raton, Fla./Chattahoochee) and
Leighahn Ferrari (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) (Copiague, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) won the women's last race of the night in 2:00.19.
Also, the Skyline Swimming weekly honors were announced on Monday and Vanderlinden was named the Female Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. Additionally, sophomore
Courtney Hill (Palmdale, Calif./Quartz Hill) and freshman

The swimming teams return to action on Sunday, Nov. 19, when they travel over to Great Neck to take part in the Kings Point Invitational. First race of the non-scoring event is scheduled for 11 a.m. at the Mariners' O'Hara Hall Pool.
