THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (March 31, 2010) – The Maritime men's lacrosse team lost to Skyline -foe Farmingdale State, 14-12, Wednesday night in both squads' conference-openers at Reinhart Field. With the loss, the Privateers fall to 2-6 on the season (0-1 Skyline), while the Rams improve to 7-3 (1-0 Skyline).

The Privateers trailed by as much as five goals in the second half, but rallied late to within two twice, but turnovers proved costly and Farmingdale held on for the victory. Junior Alexander Korb (Islip, N.Y./Islip) (Islip, N.Y.) recorded a team-high seven points on the night (four goals and three assists), while senior Ryan Doherty (Yorktown, N.Y.) (2g, 3a) and junior Seth Collins (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) (Owego, N.Y.) (3g, 2a) each registered five points. Junior Jesse de'Boer (Ridge, N.Y.) recorded three points with a goal and two assists and freshman Matthew Messina (West Sayville, N.Y./Sayville) (West Sayville, N.Y.) added two goals for Maritime.

Collins got the scoring started on the night when he found the back of the net over five minutes into the game. The Rams tied the score at 1-1 less than two minutes later and the first quarter ended that way. Farmingdale scored two goals in the first five minutes of the second quarter, but the Privateers responded quickly with two goals from Doherty and Collins just 20 seconds apart to tie the score at 3-3. A late goal by the Rams' Wes Hubschmitt (3g, 5a) gave Farmingdale a 4-3 lead that it took into the locker rooms.

The Rams came out firing in the third quarter and scored three quick goals to take a 7-3 lead. After a 15-minute delay due to a loss of power in one set of lights on the playing field, action resumed and Maritime controlled play and scored three of the last four goals of the third to come within 8-6.

Maritime had to play catch-up throughout the entire fourth quarter, as Farmingdale built its lead up to 13-8. Three goals within less than four minutes of each other by Collins, Messina and Korb cut that deficit to just two, 13-11. The Rams would score again with just under a minute to play, then Doherty found the back of the net to close out the scoring.

Sophomore Steven Tonn (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) (Wantagh, N.Y.) was the team's leader in ground balls with five, while de'Boer picked up four. In net for Maritime, senior Colin Gallagher (Minneapolis, Minn./Westhill) picked up the loss despite making 10 saves. His record moves to 1-5 on the season.

Up next for the Privateers is a trip to Upstate New York, where they will travel to take on SUNY Plattsburgh this Saturday, April 3. First faceoff against the Cardinals is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Plattsburgh State Fieldhouse Lacrosse Complex.
