NEW YORK (Jan. 21, 2010) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming teams began the 2010 portion of their schedules with tough road losses to Baruch Wednesday night at the ARC Aquatic Center in Manhattan. The Privateer men lost, 142-81, and fell to 4-3, while the Bearcats improve to 7-4. The Maritime women's team lost, 101-68, and dropped to 1-7 with the loss, as the Lady Bearcats moved to 7-4.
The men recorded two first place finishes at the meet, as sophomore Ryan Luchsinger (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) touched first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.61 and classmate Jonathan DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) won the 100-yard butterfly by swimming a 1:02.71.
On the women's side, junior Caroline Hickey (New Orleans, La./DeLasalle) earned the event-high nine points in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:20.72, while classmate Alyssa Vecchione (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream) did the same in the 100-yard breaststroke by finishing in 1:59.19.
The Maritime men's team will return to action on Monday, Jan. 25, when the squad travels to Newark, N.J., to take on NJIT at 6 p.m. at the Estelle and Zoom Fleisher Athletic Center. The women's squad returns to the pool on Thursday, Feb. 4, when it travels with the men to Skyline opponent Mount Saint Mary.
