Box Score THROGS NECK, NY - The Maritime men's lacrosse team exploded Wednesday evening, for eight goals in the opening quarter, three in the second and coasted to an 18-8 win over the College of Mt St Vincent for a Skyline Conference win. The contest happened at Tibbets Brook Park in Yonkers, the new home for Dolphin lacrosse.
Forty five players saw action for the Privateers as the coaching staff liberally substituted through the final three quarters. The Maritime starting defensive unit was almost impenetrable in the first half of action with a smothering, relentless defensive game plan. Offensively, the speed and skills of the Privateers were too much for the Dolphins in the opening quarter, scoring their first six goals on their first six shots.
Leading the Privateers with three goals apiece were Alex Korb and Keith Fricke (White Plains, NY/White Plains) while James Buttafuoco (Williston Park, NY/Holy Trinity) netted two. Lawrence Montreuil, Stephen Doherty (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland), Peter Popovich (East Islip, NY/East Islip), Roy Mawhinney (East Islip, NY/East Islip), Ryan Korb (Islip, N.Y./Islip), Matt Marcicano, Michael Hanratty (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial), Andrew Marklin (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East), Seth Collins (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy), and Rob Lenseth (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown) all got on the board with one goal apiece.
Maritime also had 16 different players record points in assists with Lawrence Monteuil leading in with four and Stephen Doherty (Yorktown, N.Y./Lakeland) with two. Michael Bonanza (Clinton Corners, N.Y./Kent), John Driscoll (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford), Alex Korb, Roy Mawhinney (East Islip, NY/East Islip), Peter Popovich (East Islip, NY/East Islip) and James Shubel (Lloyds Neck, NY/Cold Spring Harbor) all registered with one assist apiece. With the win, the Privateers move ahead at 7-3 overall with a 2-0 record in the Skyline Conference.
