THROGS NECK, NY - On Wednesday, March 25, 2009, the SUNY Maritime Men's Lacrosse team will rekindle a decades old tradition and play Massachusetts Maritime. The game will be called the “Maritime Cup” and the scheduled game time is 7:00 PM at Reinhart Field on historic Ft. Schuyler's Throgs Neck Campus.

During the annual Chowder Bowl football game this past September, Maritime Lacrosse Coach Russ Ketcham was talking with Bob Corradi, Mass Maritime Athletic Director, about the history of sports competition between the two schools. Their conversation led to the establishment of an annual Men's Lacrosse match-up this spring. Barry Joyce, Mass Maritime Head Lacrosse Coach, was amenable to the arrangement, the only problem was finding a day to play. Mass Maritime arranged to reschedule one of their conference games and travel here to start, what is hoped to be a long standing rivalry. In the future, the game will be a Saturday affair with teams traveling to the host campus the Friday before, staying on their rival's ship and playing the following afternoon.

Maritime Coach Russ Ketcham said, "Without the cooperation of the entire Athletic Administrative staff at Mass Maritime this game could not have taken place this spring. We're hoping for an entertaining contest and hope that the SUNY Maritime community turns out to cheer on their Privateers and welcome the Buccaneers to Ft. Schyler".
