Tucker Earns Skyline Swimming Rookie Of The Week Honors; DaSilva And Hickey Land On Weekly Honor Roll

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Dec. 7, 2009) – Maritime freshman Joseph Tucker (Merrick, N.Y./Calhoun ) was named the Skyline Conference Swimming Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Privateers' wins over Queens College and Lehman last week. Sophomore Jonathan DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and junior Caroline Hickey (New Orleans, La./DeLasalle) also received accolades from the conference, as they were both named to the weekly honor roll.

 

Tucker was a part of the 200 yard freestyle relay team that clinched the win for the Privateers of Queens, as the foursome swam a 1:34.67 and narrowly defeated the Knight's team who finished just two seconds behind. Against Lehman, Tucker anchored the 200 yard medley relay team to a first-place finish (1:48.8) and then later won the 200 yard freestyle race with the only time under two minutes, 1:56.49.

 

DaSilva earned three first-place finishes during the week, as he won the 200 yard individual medley against both Queens (2:09.44) and Lehman (2:16.25), then was a part of the winning 200 yard freestyle relay team that clinched the meet against Queens with a time of 1:34.67.

 

Hickey captured the event-high nine points for the Privateers in the 200 yard individual medley against Queens on Monday with a time of 2:35.00 and the won the event on Thursday against Lehman in 2:33.08. She then went on to also win the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.32.

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool tomorrow, Dec. 8, when they play host to conference-opponent Old Westbury. First race is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Riesenberg Hall Swimming & Diving Facility.
