THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Nov. 4, 2009) – The Maritime men's and women's swimming teams each lost to William Patterson Tuesday night at the Riesenberg Hall Swimming & Diving Facility in the first dual meets of the 2009-10 season. The men lost by a score of 136-104 and begin the year 0-1, while the Pioneer men improve to 2-1. The Privateer women fell 117-104 and are also 0-1 to start the season, while the Pioneers move to 3-1.
Sophomore Ryan Luchsinger (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) won the Privateers first event of the day, the Men's 50 Yard Freestyle, with a time of 22.84. Two events later, classmate Jonathan DaSilva (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) won the 200 Yard IM in 2:09.99, and then earned his second victory of the day in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 54.69, over three seconds better than his opponents in the race.
On the women's side, Maritime earned nine points towards its final score with the top spots in the 100 Yard Freestyle (sophomore Laura Palino (North Babylon, N.Y./North Babylon) in a time of 1:34.47), the 100 Yard Backstroke (junior Caroline Hickey (New Orleans, La./DeLasalle) in 1:09.21), the 500 Yard Freestyle (senior Joanne Rydzewski (Floral Park, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) with a time of 7:56.17) and sophomore Brisa Garrido (Boca Raton, Fla./Chattahoochee), who swam a 1:25.61 in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.
The Privateers return to the pool on Tuesday, Nov. 10, when they play host to Skyline opponent Purchase at 6 p.m.
