Football Drops Road Contest at Salve Regina

THROGS NECK, NY - The Privateer football team was on the road Saturday against Salve Regina and lost 46-14.  The Privateers record evened out at 1-1 heading into a 2 game homestand.

The Privateers were held to 235 yards on the ground for the game, with Robert Nichols (Ossining (NY)/Ossining) (Ossining, NY/Ossining) leading the way with 74.  Freshman James Spanopolous (Franklin Square, NY/H. Frank Carey) followed closely with 71.  Both ran for a touchdown.

The Privateers were an impressive 7-10 on third down conversions for the game.  They averaged 6.3 yards per play, and were forced to punt only once. However, 6 turnovers proved to be the downfall for the Privateers, as Salve capitalized on those turnovers with 5 touchdowns.

Defensively, Dawit Goodall (Massapequa, NY/Amittyville) (Amityville, NY/Amityville) led the team with 9 total tackles, all solo.  Michael Oehl (Nesconset, NY/Smithtown West) (Nesconset, NY/Smithtown West) followed with 6 solo tackles, and also recorded a sack.

The Privateers are home for the next two games, this Saturday against Randolph Macon at noon and the following Saturday, against Norwich University for homecoming, at 1:30 p.m.
