Box Score LANCASTER, PA- The Privateer women's lacrosse squad lost a hard-fought battle against the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College 6-8 on Saturday, March 29 in Lancaster, PA. Although Maritime opened up the game with a quick goal, Lancaster Bibleanswered right back and took the lead at the half 3-2 and Maritime never regained the lead for the rest of the game. Maritime's record falls to 1-6 while Lancaster Bible stands at 2-6.
6 players each scored, lead by freshman Andria Thornton (Saugerties, N.Y./Saugerties) (Saugerties, NY/ Saugerties) who had the first goal of the game less than 4:00 in. Sophomore Elizabeth Tavalro (Broadalbin, NY/ Broadalbin-Perth) got the second goal of the half at 29:46 to cut the Charger's lead to 1. In the second half of the game, senior Jamie Gleber (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) (Wilmington, DE/ Padua Academy) scored Maritime's 3rd goal at 9:38, assisted by freshman Kaitlin Murray (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren Regional) (Blairstown, NJ/ North Warren Regional) while sophomore Maggie Klimkowski (/) (Wantagh, NY/ Kellenburg Memorial) tallied the team's 4th at 19:07, assisted by junior Krystyn Rutzel (Levittown, NY/Division Ave H.S.) (Levittown, NY/ Division Ave). Rutzel also had the next goal of the game, assisted by Jamie-Lynn Butto (Lake Worth, FL/ Pope John Paul II). Although Maritime had the last 3 goals of the game, it was not enough to overcome the Charger's lead and even with sophomore Kyle Kenny (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet)'s (West Nyack, NY/ Nanuet) final unassisted goal of the game with less than two minutes to go, Lancaster won by a final score of 8-6.
Lancaster Bible had a slight shot advantage with 17 to Maritime's 16, and both teams recorded 10 shots on goal. Lancaster Bible had 13 ground balls to Maritime's 9 and 9 caused turnover's to Maritime's 6. Both teams had 12 turnovers apiece, while Maritime went 3-6 on clears and Lancaster Bible went 4-5.
The Privateer's will be in action again on Wednesday, April 2 for their Skyline Conference opener against Montclair State at 7:00 pm on Reinhart Field.
