Bronx, NY – Junior forward Michael Stolberg (Bayside, N.Y./Holy Cross) (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) scored a career high 21 points and set a new best in rebounds with 11 in his first game back since the 2005-06 season concluded, however his first career double-double would not be enough as the Privateers finished on the short end of a 90-73 defeat to the Panthers of Ferrum College, in a non-conference men’s basketball game on Wednesday afternoon played at Lehman College in the Bronx, NY.

 

Ferrum (5-4) wins their second straight game to move above .500 on the season, recovering from a three game skid. The Privateers (1-7) have lost five straight games since earning their first win in the dramatic five-overtime game against MCLA.

 

Junior guard Lamar Fields (Bronx, NY/Rice) had a strong first half, shooting 7-of-10 from the field for 17 points, by far his best shooting performance of the season. He was limited to just three shots in the second half to finish the game with 21 points. Sophomore forward Timothy Dougherty (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) rounded out the scoring for the Privateers with 10 points and also added eight rebounds.  

 

After eight lead changes in the first ten minutes of the game, the Panthers were able to pull away as senior forward Keith Harris (Ringgold, VA/Dan River) caught on fire, draining five of seven from downtown for 17 points.

 

Junior forward Cedric Jones (Lynchburg, VA/Gulf Coast CC) scored a game high 25 points for the Panthers, shooting an impressive 10-of-12 from the field. Harris would finish with 20, while senior guard Rob Fuller (Timberlake, NC/Person Co.) had 14 as the only other Panther to score in double-digits.

 

Maritime returns to action next week when they host the Hawks of Hunter College on Thursday, December 18 for a 7:00pm game.
