Throggs Neck, NY – The Privateers came one basket shy of going on the team's first ever winning streak Friday night when they fell to Bard College 47-46, another game that went right down to the wire. Junior center Alissa Bello (Rockaway, NY/Poly Prep) (Rockaway, NY/Poly Prep) led the way for the Privateers with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard Hannah Timmons (New Orleans, LA/Louise S. McGhee) was the only Raptors to score in double digits with 16 points.
The Privateers trailed by seven points after one half of play, however battled back in the second and took control of the game holding onto as much as a six point lead with six minutes left in the game. Then the Raptors made a quick run and stole the lead on a jumper by freshman forward Elyse Rivas (San Jose, CA/SF Waldorf) with 4:44 left to go in the half. The Privateers would go onto tie the game up twice and were unable to regain the lead even with shutting Bard down for the last two minutes of the game.
At the 1:37 mark, freshman forward Marissa Webber-Bey (Far Rockaway, NY/Fashion) scored a sweet basket and brought the Privateers within one point, however this would be the last point scored for the rest of the game with both teams missing some key baskets and free throws down the stretch.
Coming off of a career best performance Wednesday night, sophomore guard Kristen Johnston (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa Acad.) (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) scored ten point in this game, and the Privateers saw a huge contribution from freshman forward Jeanette Golson (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) (Brooklyn, NY/Transit Tech) who finished with a career best 15 rebounds and three blocks. The Raptors were out rebounded by Maritime 62-58 despite a team high 13 rebounds by sophomore center Melissa Kutner (Arlington, VA/H-B Woodlawn).
The Privateers will be back in action Monday when the Lighting of Lehman College come to town for a 6pm start.
