Amauris Lopez is back for his sixth season with the Maritime football team heading in to the 2021 season.
Lopez made the switch from Running Backs to Linebackers headed into the 2019 season. In his first on the defensive side of the ball, the linebacker core had two all-conference selections as well as the leagues second highest tackler.
Previously as the Running Backs Coach, Maritime rushed for 1,869 yards behind All-Conference running back Chris Olberding ’18 and All-Conference fullback Devin Kenny ’18 leading the way with 1,062 yards between the pair. The team went on to win nine contests and take part in the New England Bowl Series.
During his first season with the team Maritime ran the ball for 1,656 yards during the team’s 2016 season that saw the team win six games and reach the ECAC Division III Football Bowl Fest.
The former Division II football player saw time in parts of two seasons with the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. As a member of the team, he helped the program to five victories while serving as a linebacker.
He comes to Maritime from Portales, New Mexico, where he worked for the City of Portales Recreation Center Staff. While there he assisted in all classroom and outdoor activities from August through December of 2015.
Prior to his stop in New Mexico, Lopez served as an Assistant Football Coach for Beach Channel High School in Rockaway Park, New York. While there he assisted in all aspects of the team’s football operations as well as with the team in the weight room as he oversaw the strength and conditioning of the student-athletes.
Before departing for college, Lopez was a Volunteer Youth Football Coach in Queens, New York, serving primarily as defensive coordinator. He also game planned, while teaching the fundamentals of football to the group comprised of the 10-13 year old age group.
Lopez graduated from Eastern New Mexico in May of 2015 with his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. The Brooklyn, New York native still resides in Brooklyn.
