Robert Gomez was named Head Coach of the Maritime men’s soccer program in August 2026. He joined the Privateers after three seasons at St. Joseph’s LI, where he received Skyline Coach of the Year honors in 2024 and led the Golden Eagles to a Skyline championship in 2025.
Gomez is St. Joseph’s LI’s all-time winningest coach, going 34-14-5 during his tenure. In his first season at the helm, the Golden Eagles finished 8-7-2, their first winning season in six years, and qualified for the Skyline Tournament. St. Joseph’s LI then posted a perfect 11-0-0 mark in conference play during the 2024 season. Gomez was recognized as the Skyline Coach of the Year after guiding the Golden Eagles to a 13-2-2 mark, including a school-record 13-game winning streak, and their first-ever regional ranking (No. 6).
After dropping the 2024 Skyline Championship Game to Manhattanville, St. Joseph’s LI returned to the title contest in 2025 and defeated Mount St. Vincent for its first Skyline crown since 2012. The Golden Eagles went on to face Scranton in the NCAA Tournament. Overall, St. Joseph’s LI was 13-5-1 and earned the program’s first national ranking (No. 83) that season.
While with the Golden Eagles, he mentored 11 all-conference players, including 2024 Skyline Defensive Player of the Year Sebastiano Bartolotta and goalkeeper Guiseppe Vitale, who went on to a professional career in Germany.
Prior to becoming Head Coach, Gomez was an assistant at St. Joseph’s LI from 2018-22. He served as the program’s recruiting coordinator and put together a roster that had a winning record for the first time in five years during the 2022 campaign. Gomez also played at St. Joseph’s LI from 2012-16 and was a team captain as a senior. He later played professionally and semi-professionally in Slovenia, Germany, Iceland, Costa Rica and Spain. Gomez was a two-time Team of the Week selection at FCA 04 Darmstadt in Germany, where he was a starter in 2019. His first post-collegiate playing experience came with FA Euro New York’s First Team in 2017-18.
In addition, Gomez boasts a U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) Class D license. He has worked as both an Age Group Leader and Youth Coach with Cantera Futbol USA and Northport Cow Harbor United Soccer Club. Under Gomez’s tutelage, the 2014 Boys team moved up from EDP Division 4 to EDP Premier 2, winning multiple tournaments and ranking as high as sixth in the state.
