Joe Clifford joined the Maritime staff as Sports Information Director in September 2021. A veteran of more than 15 years in collegiate athletics, he came to Fort Schuyler after a two-year stint at The City College of New York.
As the Sports Information Director, Clifford is responsible for managing the Department’s official website, maritimeathletics.com. He also maintains all historical records and statistics for each of Maritime’s varsity teams, and handles the live broadcasting of home events at Reinhart Field, Reinhart Baseball Field and Riesenberg Gymnasium. In addition, Clifford is responsible for all game contracts.
A 2004 graduate of Canisius College (now Canisius University), where he was a member of the track & field team, Clifford received a master’s degree in sport administration from Canisius in 2006. He began his career as the Sports Publicity intern at Yale University before serving as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Manhattan College from 2008-17. Clifford’s other previous stops include Drew University and Vassar College.
While at Manhattan, he was the primary contact for the women’s basketball, volleyball and softball teams, as well as the men’s and women’s cross country/track & field program. Clifford served as the Media Director for the 2013 NCAA Division I Cross Country Regional Championships, hosted by Manhattan at Van Cortlandt Park.
The Bronx resident also works as a baseball umpire during the spring and summer months and is a regular member of the basketball table crew at both Manhattan and Iona University, as well as various other local colleges.
