Dmarco Barnes joined the Maritime College coaching staff in 2021-22 and was named the program’s Interim Head Coach for the 2024-25 season. Following that season, he had the interim tag removed and was officially announced as the Privateers’ full-time Head Coach.
In Barnes’ first year at the helm, he led Maritime to a 16-11 record, including an 11-5 mark in Skyline Conference play. The Privateers opened conference play with a school-record nine consecutive victories and earned the No. 4 seed in the Skyline Tournament. Maritime had a home Skyline Tournament game for the third successive season, defeating St. Joseph’s LI to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 2023. Jake Devaney was honored as both the Skyline and ECAC Rookie of the Year, while Jake Murphy also earned All-Skyline recognition.
As an assistant coach, Barnes helped Maritime make back-to-back Skyline Tournament appearances, including a semifinal berth in 2023. The Privateers posted a 12-win improvement in 2022-23, his second season on the staff. Maritime went undefeated at home, hosted a Skyline Tournament game for the first time, and reached the semifinals for the first time in 15 years that season. The Privateers had another Skyline Tournament home game in 2024, while also hosting the ECAC Men’s Basketball Championship at Riesenberg Gymnasium. It was Maritime’s first ECAC Tournament appearance in 15 years and first-ever postseason home contest.
Barnes was a four-year letterwinner at Daemen University, graduating with a degree in business administration in 2019. During his senior season, the Wildcats won the East Coast Conference regular season championship and played in the NCAA Tournament for the first time. That 2018-19 squad went 24-6, setting a program record for wins in a season.
A native of Baldwin, NY, he was a part of Baldwin High School’s Long Island championship team in 2012 and 2013 Nassau County championship team. Barnes earned places on both the All-Nassau County and All-Long Island teams as a senior in 2013-14, and graduated as Baldwin’s school record-holder for three-pointers made.
