Morgan Collins begins her fourth season with the Maritime Co-Ed Sailing Staff for in 2017-18.
In 2016-17 the team had a trio of top-five finishes throughout the season. The team hosted three events throughout the fall and spring seasons and finished in the top-nine in each of the events including a season-best third place finish at the Luce Regatta in mid-October. At the end of the season, the Privateers fell one position shy of qualifying for nationals with a 10th place finish at the America Trophy.
During the 2015-16 season, Collins guided the young Privateer team to six top-five finishes, which also included a win at the Laser North 1 during the first month of the season. Maritime finished ninth at the Atlantic Coast Championships to close out the fall, while Maritime finished sixth at the War Memorial in the spring and followed that up with a 12th place finish at the America Trophy.
Following the conclusion of her second season with the team, Wilson had Caitlin Cummings '18 selected as an All-MAISA Crews following the sophomores efforts all season.
In her first season with the team, Collins helped the Privateers regain its foothold on the college sailing team as the team was nationally ranked on several occasions through the 2014-15 season. The year culminated with an appearance at the ICSA Fleet Race National Championships held in Newport, R.I.
Over the course of her first season, the team had six top-five finishes, including a victory at the Admiral Moore Team Race hosted by Maritime in late March.
Collins comes to Maritime after coaching various private teams along the east coast in both regional and national events.
Collins has been on the water since the age of seven and put together a strong junior career that saw her finish in second place at the U.S. Sailing Junior Women’s Singlehanded Championships. Her strong sailing background helped her land a spot on the nationally recognized Old Dominion Sailing Team.
While at ODU, Collins was a four-year member of the team and qualified for the ICSA National Singlehanded Championships in each of her four seasons with the Monarchs.
Her best finish came during her junior season, when she finished fifth place after ending up within the top-five in 11 of the 18 races during the weekend. In addition to her fifth place finish in 2009, Collins also finished 11th during her freshman season and ninth during her sophomore season.
In her free time, Collins is an avid triathlete and also competes in the local J24 fleet.
The Maryland native earned her degree in International Studies from Old Dominion University in 2011. She is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Political Science.
