Matthew Garofalow is currently in his eighth year at Maritime College and recently completed his fifth year as head coach of the Privateer ice hockey team in 2013-14.
In 2012-13, Garofalow led the program to its best season in program history – a 27-4 record, a Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference (MCHC) Championship and a berth in the ACHA Division 3 National Championship tournament.
The Privateers have made the MCHC playoffs in each of the last three years, winning the 2013 Championship. The 2012-13 team finished 12th in the country in the final ACHA D3 national pool. Two players received All-Atlantic Region honors: Vincent Monfredo was named to the Second Team and Harris Burger to the Third Team. Six players were named Academic All-Americans. Coach Garofalow also serves as the Associate Director of Admissions at Maritime.
One year after the team finished 0-15, Garofalow guided the team to a 6-11 record. Since the early days of the program, he increased practice time from one and a half hours on ice to three hours, added an off-ice program and started weekly meetings that include film and review of future opponents.
