Gene Steinbach

Gene Steinbach begins his fifth year as the Privateer Head Baseball Coach in 2014.

Steinbach brings years of AAA playing experience and more than 15 years of coaching experience to Maritime. His passion and love for the game is something that he takes pride in, something he hopes to transfer to his student-athletes each and every day.

He was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a 6th round pick in 1981. He played 4 years in the Dodger organization before being acquired by the Cleveland Indians.

Prior to Maritime, Steinbach was an assistant coach at Adelphi University. The majority of his college coaching experience came from Molloy College, where he spent six seasons as the assistant and two as the associate head coach. He coached the catchers and was the hitting coach while at Molloy, helping guide the team to a NYCAC Conference Championship in 2001.

Aside from coaching at the college level, Steinbach was an assistant coach for the L.I Tigers and a hitting instructor for high school, college, and many minor league players. Gene is also active in his community where he volunteers his time coaching youth baseball, lacrosse and soccer. He also runs coaching clinics for Little League coaches all across Long Island.

Steinbach grew up in Long Island, graduating from Valley Stream South High School before attending Georgia Southern University. Steinbach currently owns and operates two successful restaurants.

Steinbach resides with his wife Bonnie, and son Kyle in Garden City, N.Y.
