THROGGS NECK, NY – Four student-athletes and one coach have been selected as the Maritime College Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2026. The induction ceremony will take place on Thursday, Oct. 22 as a part of Homecoming Weekend.
This year's honorees are:
- Larry Calame '80 (Football & Wrestling)
- Roy Larson (Swimming & Diving Coach)
- Rick McClain '13 (Football)
- Brian McLaughlin '17 (Baseball)
- Dave Starck '90 (Sailing)
Calame, who passed away earlier this year, was both a football player and wrestler during his time on Fort Schuyler. As a running back, he led the Privateers in rushing yards during both the 1979 and 1980 seasons. A two-time team MVP and all-conference performer, he set a number of program rushing records. Calame was also an All-American in wrestling. He later had a 40-year career in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, retiring in 2023.
Larson began working at Maritime in 1964 and was the founding coach of the varsity swimming & diving team. He would continue in that role until 1999. Larson was recognized as the Metropolitan Coach of the Year in 1975 after leading the Privateers to first place as a team at the Metropolitan Championships. After he retired from coaching, Larson remained a member of the Maritime College faculty until 2002, when he was recognized as "Professor Emeritus." Larson died in 2025 and will be honored posthumously.
McClain was a member of the 2010 Privateer football team that made history by going undefeated in the regular season and earning a selection to the NCAA Tournament. He was a First Team All-ECFC selection as a defensive lineman that season, then was named Honorable Mention All-ECFC in 2011. In addition, McClain earned a place on the Allstate Good Works Team.
McLaughlin became the Maritime baseball program's first-ever All-American in 2017. That season, he led the Privateers to the Skyline conference championship and was honored as the Skyline Player of the Year, ABCA Regional Player of the Year and ECAC Metro Player of the Year. A four-time All-Skyline performer, McLaughlin is still third on Maritime's all-time RBI list with 112.
Starck earned three consecutive All-America selections from 1988-90. During his senior year, he led his boat to victory at the Collegiate National Match Racing Championships and fifth place at the open dinghy National Championships. As a team, the Privateers were ranked third nationally that season. Starck would go on to a distinguished post-graduate sailing career, winning multiple national and international regattas and capturing a silver medal representing the United States in the Lightning class at the 2007 Pan American Games.
