Goodman Honored As Skyline Player of the Week

THROGGS NECK, NY – Sophomore outfielder Joey Goodman (Merrick, NY) of the Maritime College baseball team has been chosen as the Skyline Conference Player of the Week for his efforts during the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.  This is his first career Skyline weekly honor.

In the Privateers' 17-11 loss to Keystone on Thursday, Goodman finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.  He belted a two-run homer in the fifth before driving in two with a triple in the seventh.  Then in the 17-inning marathon with RIT on Friday, Goodman tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI groundout in the top of the ninth.  He later put Maritime in front with an RBI double in the 17th.  On Saturday against Rochester, Goodman collected two hits, including an RBI triple.

Four of his five hits across the four contests went for extra bases—a double, two triples and a home run.  Overall, Goodman hit .294 and slugged .765 while tallying nine RBIs, including at least one in every game.

The Privateers (0-5) will open their home schedule on Tuesday, when Ramapo (5-1) comes to the Reinhart Baseball Field for a 6 p.m. matchup.  The Roadrunners were originally set to host, but the contest was moved to Maritime due to unplayable field conditions at Ramapo.
