THROGGS NECK, NY – Alex Bardi (Wantagh, NY) finished a triple short of the cycle and tied the single-game program record with seven RBIs on Thursday, as the Maritime College baseball team (3-8) notched a 14-6 victory over John Jay (1-11) at Reinhart Baseball Field on Thursday night. He crushed a two-run homer in the first and drove in two on a third-inning single before smacking a three-run double during the Privateers' eight-run fifth inning.
After Sebastian Sanchez put the Bloodhounds in front with a two-run homer in the top of the first, Bardi tied the score in the bottom half of the inning with his blast to center field. In the bottom of the second,
Blake Gnepper (Ottawa Hills, OH) gave Maritime the lead with a double off the wall in right center, then Bardi's two-run single to left made it 5-2.
John Jay leveled the score at 5-5 on Jayden Dixon's three-run homer in the top of the fifth, but the Privateers immediately responded with an eight-spot. Maritime's first 11 batters in the fifth all reached base, with
Dominick Viggiano (Miller Place, NY) and
Randy Ventura (Syosset, NY) both recording a pair of singles in the inning. The Privateers increased their lead to 14-5 on
Owen Weber's (Kings Park, NY) RBI double in the sixth before Sanchez belted his second homer of the game leading off the eighth to account for the game's final run.
With seven RBIs, Bardi equaled the program mark shared by Weber (April 5, 2025 vs. Manhattanville) and Freddy Forgione (April 24, 2024 at Lehman). He also scored three runs. Every Maritime starter had at least one hit, as the Privateers recorded 20 hits as a team. Weber, Viggiano and
Dylan Payano (Flushing, NY) each tallied three hits.
Andrew Heiderstadt (Farmingdale, NY) made his season debut on the mound and went four innings. He allowed two runs on four hits, struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
Francis Montalvo (College Point, NY) (1-0) picked up his first collegiate win after surrendering three runs on two hits with two walks and six strikeouts over three innings of work.
Colin Horowitz (Farmingdale, NY) gave up one run in the eighth, while
Frank Santeramo (Garden City, NY) struck out the side in the ninth.
For the Bloodhounds, Sanchez was 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs, and Dixon went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. Jaxen Gangwish added two hits and scored twice. Starting pitcher Danny Opramolla lasted 1.2 innings on the mound, yielding five runs on six hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Alex Morrissey (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking two over 2.2 innings.
On Saturday, Maritime (0-0 Skyline) begins Skyline Conference play with a 12 p.m. doubleheader against Mount St. Vincent. The twinbill will be played at Reinhart Baseball Field, with the Dolphins (1-8, 0-0 Skyline) serving as the home team.
