THROGGS NECK, NY – After the Maritime College men's and women's swimming & diving teams returned to action by each sweeping a tri-meet with Lehman and York on Wednesday night, three Privateers have been recognized with Skyline Conference weekly awards.
Rowan Hayes (Floral Park, NY) was named Men's Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season, while
Johnny Walz (Staten Island, NY) earned Men's Diver of the Week honors. In addition,
Rebecca Kmiotek (Lindenhurst, NY) was selected as the Women's Rookie of the Week.
Hayes, who was previously honored on Nov. 17, took home his fifth career Swimmer of the Week nod. He won the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 22.19 seconds and had a 58.56-second clocking in the 100 yard breaststroke. Hayes also swam the breaststroke leg on Maritime's victorious 200 yard medley relay squad.
Walz took first in both diving events in the tri-meet. He tallied 197.33 points on the 1-meter board and 187.80 points in the 3-meter competition. It was Walz's first time diving off the 3-meter board in a Privateers uniform.
Kmiotek also recorded a pair of individual victories, posting season-best times in each event. She won the 1000 yard freestyle in 15:18.76 and notched a 7:21.86 clocking in the 500 yard freestyle. Kmiotek is the first Maritime woman to receive a Skyline weekly award since
Lauren Barriteau (Swimmer) and
Jessica Magee (Diver) were honored on Nov. 13, 2024.
The tri-meet against Lehman and York was the Privateers' last competition before the Skyline Championships, which are set for this weekend at Purchase College. There will be morning and afternoon sessions on both Saturday and Sunday, with the diving competition taking place between the two swimming sessions.
