OLD WESTBURY, NY – The Maritime College baseball team put up a combined 32 runs in its first Skyline Conference doubleheader of the season on Sunday. After winning the first game 14-4, the Privateers (9-9, 2-0 Skyline) completed the sweep with an 18-7 victory over Old Westbury (9-7, 0-2 Skyline) at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
Maritime scored 12 runs in the first two innings of Game 1. The Privateers started the contest with five consecutive hits and tallied five runs in the top of the first. They then sent 12 batters to the plate in the second, putting up a seven-spot in the inning.

John Spallin (Holmdel, NJ), meanwhile, contributed a two-RBI single during the seven-run rally.
Harry Leipold (Thornwood, NJ) added a two-run double in the fourth that made it 14-0.
That was more than enough offense for
Matt Demme (Carmel, NY). After walking the bases loaded in the first, he retired Ricky Fasitta on a popup to get out of the inning. The Panthers finally broke through off Demme in the fourth, scoring four times to cut their deficit to 14-4.

He yielded nine runs (six earned) on nine hits and struck out one. Louis Pizzileo gave up five runs on seven hits with four walks and three strikeouts over 2.2 innings before giving way to Jimmy Stroehlein, who yielded just one hit over three scoreless innings. He recorded one strikeout.
In Game 2, the Privateers continued the offensive onslaught, scoring seven runs in the top of the first. Leipold knocked in two on a triple to center, while Weber's second hit of the inning was a two-run double that gave Maritime a 7-0 lead. After the Panthers plated one in the first and two in the second to get within 7-3, each team added a run in the third.
Leading 10-5 in the top of the sixth, the Privateers put up another crooked number.
Chris Picarella (Levittown, NY) started the inning with a walk and eventually scored on a passed ball. Maritime then got RBI singles from Frazzetta and Leipold before Granucci ripped a two-run single that increased the margin to 15-5.
Old Westbury countered with two in the bottom of the sixth, though, ensuring the game would go the full nine innings. The Privateers got another run in the eighth when
Joey Goodman (Merrick, NY) lifted a sacrifice fly to right after the Panthers had walked the bases loaded. Leipold and Granucci each picked up another RBI in the ninth, as Maritime scored two more to make it 18-7.

Colin McKeon (Mullica Hill, NJ) (1-0), who allowed two runs (one earned) and two hits over two innings. He struck out one and walked one.
